FORMER DEMONSTRATIONS AND EVENTS

April 17, 2016     Demo by Jeff Ventola

Jeff Ventola was our April demo artist.  He was demonstrating a pastel landscape.

In his words:
I am a oil and pastel artist from Southern New Hampshire. I have been painting for about five years,   however I have been an artist my whole life. I enjoy subjects of all kinds especially those that challenge me. As you'll see from my work, I love sunsets and I love the beach. I try to work with those subjects as often as possible.

I put my soul into every stroke...when you feel joy viewing my art I feel I have succeeded. I try to choose a subject that is close to my heart that I know others will enjoy as much as I enjoyed painting it.

My choice of medium depends on my mood...If I want to challenge myself, I work in oils because It forces me to be disciplined, patient and see things differently than I do with pastel. I choose pastel when I want to rely on instinct and spend less time mixing paint!

I am a member of the Newburyport Art Association and the Seacoast Artist association and my success is driven by you...I want my art to make you smile. I am a perfectionist and it gets in the way, yet fuels my motivation. I work very hard to improve and will continue to do so until I feel the path will no longer bring me to personal artistic satisfaction.
The future never looked so bright.

Location:   North Parish Church (Please note room change in the detail below)

190 Academy Rd, North Andover, MA 01845

Elaine Messinger will present an exhibition of paintings and a slide presentation of the Arizona terrain that inspired her.
Her presentation is a documentary of her visit with the Navajo and Hopi Native Americans where she taught art at the school on the reservation for several weeks.  While there the terrain inspired her to paint many watercolors of what she saw and experienced.  Her presentation will include slides of the awe inspiring caves and majestic buttes she saw as well as some of the paintings that the scenes inspired her to create.
Attention, meeting room change
The demo meeting time is 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The site is North Andover's North Parish church.   However, because this demo requires a projector and a screen it will not occur in the room, the Children’s Chapel, we have been using. The room we will use is familiar to long term AAG members. It is located on the lower level of the Church complex and is accessible from an entrance on the Great Pond Road side of the church.

Location:   North Parish Church

190 Academy Rd, North Andover, MA 01845

She will be working in pastels on an animal portrait.

On her Website, www.reservoirfarmstudio.net, Karla states,

“I believe that the inclusion of animals in our homes serves to enhance our humanity and allows us to appreciate the beauty of the world around us.

For my entire life, I have been surrounded by a menagerie: cats, dogs, hedgehogs, rabbits, birds, mice, and fish have all at one time or another inhabited my heart and home.

I have found that using my love of animals with my love of painting makes for a winning combination.  With each animal I paint, I attempt to bring that animal’s personality through the painting to the viewer.  My greatest success is to see a smile flash across someone’s face when they see my paintings.

I live in Andover, MA with my husband, three sons, two Italian Greyhounds, a variety of foster bunnies, and Stuart the Wondercat.”

Her memberships include, The Pastel Society of America, The Rockport Art Association, and The Portrait Society of America.

June 14th  - Demo by David Jones

“See the Everyday in an Abstract Way"

This demonstration will focus on taking paint (or any medium) spread on any surface, which the artist then reviews and studies to see the abstract shape that will become the driving idea for the finished painting (or drawing). I work in general with very precise ideas of the subject matter I will paint but when this technique is used “The Universe Pours In” and I am astonished and excited by the end result, we hope you will be too!  www.davidronaldjones.com has examples of the use of this technique as well as my more traditional “precisionist dreamscape” style

Short Bio:

David, born in St. Asaph, North Wales, had an early interest in drawing.  He went to school in the area moving to England to attend the University of Birminghan, where he earned undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Economics. Upon completing his studies he moved to and lived in Paris, France for six years. In Paris he had his first art show of Indian Ink and brush paintings on Carson paper.

He next move took him to New England where he raised a family and earned a graduate degree in engineering from Northeastern University. He worked for over thirty years in engineering,  His love for painting was rekindled when in 2007 he started taking oil painting lessons from Sharon Morley APS.
